One of the rarest documents in James Taylor touring history — a proposed fall 1977 itinerary for The Section that, according to research, was never executed.
This original internal SHOWCO document outlines a proposed fall leg of The Section's 1977 touring schedule in support of James Taylor, spanning dates from September 27 through October 30, 1977, across major U.S. markets — Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Nashville, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Hartford, Boston, and New York — with a planned European run in November 1977.
Here's what makes this document historically significant: James Taylor did not have an active concert tour spanning this period. While he toured extensively in 1977 in support of his landmark album JT — including an extensive summer run with The Section — his only confirmed performance during the entire September 27–October 30 window was a single benefit show in Detroit on October 15, 1977. The fall tour outlined in this document never happened.
The word "PROPOSED" in the document header now reads as prophetic. This itinerary is a ghost tour — a detailed plan for shows that were never played, preserved in the SHOWCO Archives by monitor engineer Bill 'Doc' Gans, who was there for the summer dates and confirmed the fall tour did not take place. Surviving copies are extraordinarily scarce precisely because there was nothing to commemorate.
