One of the most fascinating and story-rich pieces in the entire Ponczek archive — an original "The Duck Bros" tour luggage tag from the personal collection of Mike "Dr. Funk" Ponczek, Senior Engineer at Showco from 1977 to 1993.
This cream-colored hard-plastic luggage tag with its bold black duck logo was deliberately created for Eric Clapton's touring operation as a covert travel credential. When luggage and equipment cases bore Clapton's name, they were routinely targeted at airports and customs — rummaged through, damaged, or stolen by opportunists recognizing the celebrity connection. "The Duck Bros" was the solution: an anonymous, untraceable brand identity applied to all tour luggage and cases, protecting Clapton's gear from the moment it left the venue to the moment it arrived at the next city.
This is not just any luggage tag or backstage pass — it's a piece of touring infrastructure with a secret identity. Complete with grommet hole for attachment, straight from Mike's personal archive.
All proceeds from Mike Ponczek's Closet benefit music industry charities.
